Waste Management and the Environment

Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Information for Private Households

The German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) contains requirements regarding the handling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To ensure environmentally sound disposal and the protection of resources, please observe the following information:

1. Separate Collection of Waste Equipment

Electrical and electronic equipment that has become waste is referred to as waste equipment. Owners of waste equipment are required to dispose of it separately from unsorted municipal waste. Waste equipment must not be disposed of with household waste, but must be disposed of through special collection and return systems.

2. Batteries, Rechargeable Batteries and Lamps

Owners of waste equipment are legally obliged to separate used batteries and rechargeable batteries that are not enclosed within the waste equipment, as well as lamps that can be removed from the waste equipment without destruction, before handing them in at a collection point. This does not apply if the waste equipment is prepared for reuse with the involvement of a public waste disposal authority. By properly removing these components, you actively contribute to fire protection and resource recovery.

3. Options for Returning Waste Equipment

Owners of waste equipment from private households may return it free of charge to the collection points of public waste disposal authorities (e.g. municipal recycling centers) or to return points established by manufacturers or distributors.

Return at SEBSON:

As our shipping and storage areas for electrical and electronic equipment exceed the legally defined minimum size, we offer you the following options for free return:

1:1 Return: If you purchase a new electrical or electronic device from us, we will take back one waste device of the same type free of charge, provided that it essentially fulfills the same functions as the new device.

0:1 Return: Small devices with no external dimension exceeding 25 centimeters are accepted free of charge, even if you do not purchase a new device from us. This return is limited to three waste devices per device type.

Return Process:

Please contact us at info@sebson.de to request a free return label for your waste equipment. Alternatively, you may send waste equipment free of charge directly to our shipping warehouse: SEBSON - Walter-Behrendt-Straße 10 - 44329 Dortmund.

4. Personal Responsibility Regarding Data Protection

Waste equipment (especially information and telecommunications technology devices such as computers or smart home components) may contain sensitive personal data. Please note in your own interest that each end user is personally responsible for the deletion of data on waste equipment intended for disposal.

5. Meaning of the “Crossed-out Wheeled Bin” Symbol

The symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin displayed on electrical and electronic equipment indicates that the respective device must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of its service life and must not be disposed of with household waste.

6. Information on Collection and Recycling Rates

The German Federal Government publishes annual up-to-date data on the collection and recycling rates achieved in Germany. Information on the current results can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).

7. Information on the German Battery Act (BattG)

Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. As an end user, you are legally obliged to return used batteries.

1. Return: You may return used batteries that we carry or have carried in our product range free of charge to our shipping warehouse (SEBSON - Walter-Behrendt-Straße 10 - 44329 Dortmund) or to official collection points (e.g. retailers or municipalities).

2. Symbols: The crossed-out wheeled bin means: Do not dispose of in household waste. The chemical symbols below the icon indicate the hazardous substances contained: Pb (lead > 0.004%), Cd (cadmium > 0.002%), Hg (mercury > 0.0005%).
